Literature Text

I made a recreation of the past,
Of what I left behind- you.
By digging through the sands of time,
Beyond the hourglass,
I found an endless road that winds,
Far into the hills past the horizon colored red.
The silhouettes of shadows pass,
The ghosts of remaining dead.

Remembered only by the old photographs of sepia,
That fill up the pages of the book of shadows in my heart.
Reminiscences of my mind and soul
That burn with the rise of the sun.
Like the hot metal of silver turned orange.

Necklaces of fallen stars, I wear around my neck,
Made from the shattered pieces of the sky- the season’s shards.
The ruins of self perditions,
Glow bright around my throat,
Like the sun, gleaming off the safety pin and buttons on my skirt.
Reminding me of the summer days,
That I used to spend with you.
Eating care bear gummies,
Of cherry, lime and purple.
Every color you could imagine,
Like my rainbow scarf.

That hides my face,
Like a cloak of night, warming my soul
With elegant fur trim.
The antique buttons, worn out gold,
Faded and tarnished slightly,
As if coins on the bottom of a wishing well.
An archaic bridge of glass and gems
Shines in the light, like a fallen, glistening star,
Over the stream the bubbles over the smooth pebbles
And lakes of yesterday.

Like frozen tears of ice,
The mirror shows all truth.
A reflection in the water,
Breaks into ripples and is no more.
